Research Links 2025: Multi-Country Assessment of Prevalence for Female Genital Schistosomiasis (MAP-FGS): Protocol Sharing Session
Date & Time

Selected Sessions:

Mar 5, 2025 09:00 AM

Description
The Multi-Country Assessment of Prevalence for Female Genital Schistosomiasis (MAP-FGS) represents the first large-scale, multi-country survey of FGS burden. Taking place in six countries (Tanzania, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana, Madagascar), the data from each study site will be compiled to generate accurate prevalence with associated uncertainty in each included site. To estimate the region-wide burden of FGS, data collected as part of this multi-country assessment will contribute to a model-based geostatistical estimation that will leverage the relationship between Sh, treatment history, and environmental covariates to predict the burden of FGS across sub-Saharan Africa. Ultimately, this multi-country effort aims to inform recommendations for programmatic interventions for women and girls of reproductive age at greatest risk of FGS. This Research Links webinar will center around the protocol development process, methodologies, selection of sites, and progress to date. In addition, two of the principal investigators, Prof Humphrey Mazigo of Tanzania and Dr. Mamadou Traoré of Mali will share their experiences adapting and implementing the protocol as part of data collection. Please note that no study results will be included in this webinar. Rather, we hope participants will gain insight into lessons learned from the development and implementation of this study. The COR-NTD Research Links Series receives financial support from the Gates Foundation through the Coalition for Operational Research on Neglected Tropical Diseases (COR-NTD) under The Task Force for Global Health. This event will have language translation in English and French.
